Have you checked out Dream Theater's cover of Number of the Beast? They played the whole album straight through. I though Gangland and Children of the Damned were the most interesting. The others were fairly standard.
You're not the only one who has taken a long time to get round to the new podcasts. I only just got round to listening all the way through the latest one, for which I apologize.
I was very pleasantly surprised you mentioned my acoustic Maiden project, http://www.freewebs.com/thingfishy (the main site) or http://www.notb.org/thingfish (the downloads page) and thankyou very much for doing so! :)
Yes, you certainly have my permission to play any of my tracks. They are free for anyone in the world to download and play, so you definitely can :) For the sake of sound quality, though, I would suggest playing one of the ones I recorded using my newer USB microphone.
If you look at http://www.notb.org/thingfish/date.html where the songs are sorted in the chronological order in which I recorded them, all the ones from The Clansman downwards are with the newer mic. I would recommend ones like Aces High, Mother Russia, Moonchild, CSIT, The Edge Of Darkness or Children Of The Damned for some of the better work, but feel free to choose any of them you like :)
I just discovered you podcast yesterday when I found out Maiden was coming to Phoenix. I hope to go see them. I heard you mention Ian Christie and his take on the Old and "new" Iron Maiden. His book, Sound of the Beast, is worth checking out, and I think he does justice to Maiden's contribution to the early 80's metal movement. He says one of the reason's Maiden got rid of Paul was because he was more punk and they wanted to take a different direction. Keep up the good work and keep filling the air with your great memories of Maiden.

Really mad and energetic introduction and interesting content. Will now be investigating some cover bands, maybe there's one to see near where I live?
Keep up the good work...

I LOVE Dream Theater! But damn, I never have heard their cover of NoB. I'm gonna have to check that out!
